Hi – I purchased Wicked Gentlemen in ebook (LIT) on March 28, 2010. When I tried to convert it in Calibre to epub recently so I could transfer it to my ereader, it hangs and does not ever finish converting. :( Is it possible to get it in epub, which is what I was trying to convert it to?

(I have a different ereader now, which can’t handle LIT.)

Thank you! (Also, it was very cool to meet Ginn, Astrid, and Nicole at Yaoi Con last weekend!)

    Chris

    • Gavin says:

Hi Chris, Sorry there was a problem converting the file. We’ll send you the epub and see if we can sort out the lit file. Nikki says Yaoi Con was fun, maybe one day we’ll get over to that coast and go. Maybe!

      Cheers,

      Gavin

I just purchased Jeff Mann’s Book of essays. When I click on the link, I get the following message: Requested File Could Not Be Found.

    PLEASE CORRECT THIS!

Can you give me any idea of when Lord of the White Hell book two will be available to purchase as an e book ? I have read the first part twice … And am finding it hard to resist buying the paper copy of volume two

  4. Jacquie says:

Thank you for your quick reply – I’ll be counting down the days !!!!

This check out process is confusing… how do i pay?

    • Gavin says:

Hi, can you tell me which part is confusing? It goes like this: add the book to your shopping cart. Once you’re done, use the Checkout button under the cart (which is on the top left hand side of each page).

You can either use a Paypal account, or, if you don’t have one, you can use a credit card through Paypal without opening an account.

  6. Jesse says:

If I subscribe to the annual of Lightspeed Magazine via your site and choose nook format will it support LendMe, or is that feature only possible when purchasing individuals from their B&N site?

    • Gavin says:

Jesse, I’m not sure! Would love to know from anyone who has tried this. For books from the B&N site, I know the publisher has to sign an election (as I did for our Small Beer books) allowing books to be lent. But for titles bought elsewhere I think it should be ok but I’m not completely sure. If you want to try it with an issue of Lightspeed from here and it doesn’t work, I’d be happy to refund your purchase.

      Cheers,

      Gavin Grant

Hello. For several years I bought magazines, and a lot of books, from Fictionwise, but they no longer do subscriptions at all. I just got notification that my last issue of Interzone is available there and wish I could re-subscribe. We’ve been waiting a long time watching Fictionwise lose many features, I don’t know what’s happening, it seems to be in some catastrophic decline. It would be terrific if Weightless could offer us Interzone magazine (unencrypted epub, of course).

And while I’m wish-listing: Subs for Asimov’s SF, Analog and F&SF are all gone as well from FW.

Thank you, my new favorite ebook store.

    Hi,
I have converted two Kelly Link books to ePub format for use on iPhone/iPad: Magic For Beginners and Stranger Things Happen.
Do you have an address I can send to? Or and FTP address?

    Cheers,
    Peter

While I suspect it’s not an easy task, it would be terrific if there was tracking in the Library of if/when a book was downloaded. As we buy more titles (especially subscriptions) it will become increasingly easy to miss something.

And possibly a feature to gather together and download everything in your Library that has never been downloaded yet, say in a zip file.

    • Michael says:

Dino, those are excellent suggestions. I will add them to my to-do list–though you’re right that tracking every user’s downloads won’t be easy. :)

  10. tzinnamon says:

Fictionwise.com & eBook.com were bought by Barnes & Noble for $14 million. I think they’re gutting them on purpose. Fictionwise seems to be mainly romance novels these days. I made sure I have downloaded all my library at those sites just in case.

    • Michael says:

It’s true, B&N bought Fictionwise back in March 2009. But I think the decline of Fictionwise as a result has been more a result of neglect than deliberate gutting. They stopped updating the site, stopped soliciting new titles or adding new features, and as more and more users and publishers are realizing this, the site’s traffic goes down and it becomes less vibrant. I suspect this was their plan from the beginning: they were eliminating a competitor. Gutting would have required effort. :) I definitely agree that one of these days Fictionwise will disappear, and it would be wise to download all your titles before that happens.

Rest assured, it’ll be a very long time before you have to worry about anything like that happening to weightless. We’re too small to appear on their radar and we mean to stay that way. :)

  11. Priscus says:

    Greetings,

The recent “Lightspeed: Year One” (Prime Books, by John Joseph Adams & others) is currently available as either mobi or mobi (both distinct choices).
I suspect an epub version was forgotten in some kind of blooper.

Could you please check, and possibly correct the problem, please?

    Thank you, and best regards.

  12. Priscus says:

    You’re welcome.
I do admit to some selfish motives there…

  13. Christopher says:

Hi, I bought and downloaded Lord of the White Hell Book One and Two and tried reading it in .epub format but it said the file was corrupt. I also tried reading it in .pdf but I couldn’t open it.

    • Michael says:

      Christopher,
Sorry! I did some upgrades earlier and they caused a problem with the download links. It should be fixed now if you want to try clicking the download links again; I also emailed you the files.
If anybody else is having this issue please let us know!
      Thanks,
      –Michael

  14. Emanuela says:

Hello! I’d like to gift The Rifter subscription to a friend. I’d like to know, now that all the installments are published, what she will receive: individual emails for each subscription or a single email with all the links, or the files? Thank you!

    • Michael says:

      Emanuela,

She will receive a single link to download a ZIP file containing all 10 installments. Excellent question, I will add something about this to the book description. Thanks!

  15. Emanuela says:

Thank you very much! She’ll be so happy!!!

  16. JoanSilsby says:

Hi! I purchased Lord of the White Hell Book Two a while ago, and am just now reading it. There’s a formatting problem in the ebook (epub version). The dialog displays in a larger font than the narration. It starts about a third of the way through the book. It’s not unreadable, but it is annoying, since all the characters “sound” like they’re yelling. Just wanted to make you aware of the issue. Thanks!

  17. JoanSilsby says:

Thank you! I loaded the new file onto my Nook, and it’s perfect!

What is your policy on copying book/magazine cover images and info from this website on other websites?

I plan to put up info on magazines or books I read from here on to goodreads (goodreads.com). As goodreads does not usually have entries for magazine issues, I will have to fill them up and submit it to goodreads.

Is it okay if I put images (magazine and book cover images) and info (table of content, cover blurbs) I get from here onto goodreads?

    • Michael says:

      Kam-Yung,

Thanks very much for asking. I think, since adding the cover images and info to Goodreads could only help to promote these magazines and books and help them find more readers, no one could possibly object to your doing so.

  19. Jp1138 says:

    Hello.

I bought a subscription to Locus and when pushing the “Send to my device” button i get the following error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 83886080 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 24246349 bytes) in /home/lcrwnet/public_html.weightlessbooks/wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php on line 1495

No great deal as I can download it anyway, but just tell you so you can fix it.

    Thanks

  20. sohkamyung says:

The “Also By…” section needs tweaking for writers featured in magazines or who contribute to an anthology.

For example, when looking at Locus for March 2012, the “Also By…” section seems to imply that other Locus issues were BY Kirsten Gong-Wong or Liza Groen Trombi. Ditto for Paul Di Filippo who is featured in ‘Rewired’ but it was not BY him.

  21. sohkamyung says:

FYI, the cover image for “Pistoleros!: The Chronicles of Farquhar McHarg” [ http://weightlessbooks.com/genre/nonfiction/history/pistoleros-the-chronicles-of-farquhar-mcharg/ ] is wrong.

It is using the cover image for “The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” [ http://weightlessbooks.com/authors/cory-doctorow/the-great-big-beautiful-tomorrow/ ]

It would be my pleasure to be able to buy the soon-to-relaunch Amazing Stories from Weightless http://asmblog.amazingstoriesmag.com/2012/08/10/get-a-copy-of-amazing-stories-relaunch-prelaunch-issue/

My wife purchased a 12 month subscription to Clarkesworld (epub) on 12/14/2012 as a gift for me. She believes I should have received a link to enable the subscription, but this never materialized. She has forwarded the paypal receipt to weightlessbooks@gmail.com multiple times with a request for help, but no response has been forthcoming. How do we resolve this situation?

    Thanks!

  24. rpgoldman says:

Minor suggestion: what about adding a wishlist to your site, for books we’d like to buy in the future, but can’t right now for one reason or another?

    • Michael says:

Thanks! That’s a good idea–I will add it to the to-do list.

Update 8/22/14: I’m trying out a feature that allows you to save your shopping cart and retrieve it later using a code. It’s not exactly wishlists, but it came built in with our shopping cart software and was easy to turn on. So I thought we’d try it out for awhile and see if people love/hate it/don’t care.

Let us know if you’ve got an opinion!

Any news on when the new issues of Apex or Interzone are going to be available? Thanks.

    • Gavin says:

Hi, Apex just went out — sorry, I’d misfiled the release email — and we will send out Interzone as soon as TTA Press send it over,
      best,
      Gavin
